ıs geography destiny?

“Geography is destiny” is a phrase that owes its origin to early theories of geopolitics. Napoleon is rumoured to have said this first and invaded Russia shortly afterwards.
Such statements indicate a deterministic idea of war and politics. It means that certain geographical regions have strategic, economic, political advantage. Naturally such areas are coveted by rulers and nations. Clausewitch, Alfred Mahan, Halford MAckinder, Spykman are some scholars who have often associated certain areas as being critical to controlling the world order. Shortly before the Second WW, Mackinder identified Russia and the Heartland and even gave a ditty :

“Who rules East Europe commands the Heartland;who rules the Heartland commands the World-Island;who rules the World-Island controls the world.” – 1919.
